The Vistula Cycling Route in Silesia province is a unique trail connecting the sources of the Vistula with its further course toward the sea. The route spans nearly 80 kilometers from Wisła Uzdrowisko railway station to Dankowice village at the border with Lesser Poland province. The trail mostly runs in close proximity to Poland's longest river, allowing you to observe how the Vistula gradually grows from a shallow mountain stream into an increasingly powerful river.
Despite leading through Beskid mountain towns, the route features a flat elevation profile thanks to following the river's course. You cycle through picturesque tourist mountain towns like Wisła and Ustroń, as well as peaceful villages between Drogomyśl and Zabrzeg with beautiful views of the Silesian Beskids and the "Silesian sea" - Lake Goczałkowice.
The Vistula Cycling Route is marked with distinctive orange signs with black bicycle and WTR logo (R-4 type signs). Signage is generally good, though not perfect everywhere. In some places, particularly in Skoczów municipality, signs appear too infrequently, and in Czechowice-Dziedzice several individual signs are missing. Additionally, you can find signs indicating intersections with other cycling routes and distances to upcoming towns.
Watch for old signage: in several places old signs with WTR logo on white background with blue stripe remain, which may cause confusion. The entire Silesian section has no trail map boards and information about nearby tourist attractions.
The trail is best ridden following the Vistula current, providing gentle, practically unnoticeable descent throughout the route. However, there are no obstacles to riding in the opposite direction.
First stage: Wisła – Skoczów (approximately 30 km)
The best-developed section of the route running directly alongside the Vistula. Asphalt cycle paths and roads closed to motor vehicles dominate. Wisła and Ustroń feature the best surfaces of the entire trail. Heavily forested terrain, in Ustroń passage through typical holiday promenade with numerous tourists.
Second stage: Skoczów – Ochaby Wielkie (approximately 20 km)
The cycle path quality drops significantly. First 2 kilometers feature gravel-stone path, followed by heavily worn, often cracked asphalt cycle paths. After Górki Wielkie the surface has been improved thanks to new cycle path construction.
Third stage: Ochaby Wielkie – Dankowice (approximately 30 km)
The trail veers away from the Vistula embankment and runs mainly on local public roads. From Drogomyśl to Chybie village, pleasant, quiet roads with very little car traffic. The worst section lies in Czechowice-Dziedzice municipality with terrible forest roads and potholed asphalt around Zabrzeg.
The Vistula Cycling Route doesn't run directly past major tourist attractions, but many interesting places worth visiting lie near the trail:

The trail runs through towns with varying degrees of tourism development, which means diverse accommodation options.
The Vistula Cycling Route starts at Wisła Uzdrowisko railway station, making the train a natural transport option. Currently, however, due to track repairs, replacement bus services operate, preventing bicycle transport. Alternatively, you can drive and use paid parking in Wisła and Ustroń.
The trail runs near several railway stations: Ustroń Zdrój (150m from route), Skoczów Bajerki (600m), Drogomyśl, Chybie Mnich (500m), Zabrzeg, Czechowice-Dziedzice (1km). You can also continue cycling the Lesser Poland section of WTR to Oświęcim (approximately 20km).
Main route challenges: The Vistula Cycling Route in Silesia province has two distinct sections. The first part from Wisła to Ochaby Wielkie runs in direct proximity to the river on good-quality cycle paths. The second part consists mainly of public roads in general traffic with varying standards.
Be prepared for sections with poorer surfaces - particularly in Skoczów municipality (stone paths) and around Zabrzeg and Czechowice-Dziedzice (damaged forest roads, unpaved sections along Iłownica embankments).
The Vistula Cycling Route in Silesia province is an excellent option for cyclists seeking peaceful rides through scenic areas accompanied by the flowing Vistula. The route suits families with children, especially on the first section from Wisła to Skoczów, where cycling infrastructure is best.
Due to the linear nature of the trail, plan your return logistics - you can shorten the route at Czechowice-Dziedzice or continue cycling further WTR sections toward Kraków or Gdańsk. For cyclists planning longer adventures, the trail provides an excellent start to a grand journey following Poland's longest river.
