The Camel Trail: Padstow to Wenford Bridge

The River Camel is part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is what makes this route one that I come back to year after year. Starting in the former fishing town of Padstow, the Camel Trail meanders through an incredibly scenic list of small bays, slate piles, mudflats, country fields and woodland. The first section from Padstow - Wadebridge is possibly the most picturesque but also the busiest; definitely best ridden before the cycle hire opens or visit out of season.There are free water refill points in Padstow (at the Tourist Information) and Wadebridge (by the Beach Box café at the end of the trail) to keep hydrated, as well as options on the trail:The Atlantic Coast Express - a cute converted railway carriage - is about halfway between Padstow and WadebridgeWadebridge has many great food options from local independents to larger chains ('Baker Tom' and 'Cheese at Wadebridge' are a favourite)The Camel Trail Tea Room is just outside Bodmin (next to the Camel Valley Vinyard!) and is popular place to stopAnd the Snail's Pace Café at our destination is a great place to refuel before heading back.The route starts at the Link Road car park (what3words ///collides.probably.ladder) which sits alongside National Cycle Network 32. It does get busy late-morning but it's usually easier to park here than in the south quay at the start of the trail.
